Server Rules
1. Don’t grief – Don’t be mean and blow up someone else’s hard work. Well, maybe if it’s a dirt hut. This includes lag machines and the like! Also, if you accidentally set off a creeper and it destroys part of someone’s build, please either patch it up or leave a sign letting them know! We’re all friends here.
2. Don’t steal – We all start off poor and naked at spawn, but that doesn’t mean you should start looting houses. Always ask for permission before taking items.
3. Don’t cheat – This is a vanilla-themed server folks. No X-raying, please. However, mods that don’t grant unfair advantages such as quality-of-life mods (minimap, Optifine, etc.) are allowed. Basically, just no X-ray or hacked clients. If you aren’t sure, please ask.
4. Language – Please don’t turn this into 4Chan.
5. Toxicity – Please don’t behave in a toxic manner against other players.
6. Exploits – There are many exploits that exist in vanilla Minecraft. Most of these are allowed, so long as they aren’t too cheat-like or abusive. For example, duplication exploits in general are not allowed, but certain ones like concrete powder generators or TNT dupers are allowed, so long as they do not lag the server to death. If you aren’t sure, please ask.
If you observe anyone breaking these rules, or are a victim of such rule-breaking, please contact one of our @Officers or /mail them on the server.
Club Meetings
We usually hold meetings from 6-8 pm on Saturdays, but attendance is optional. These meetings are part club management, part game night. We use them to help decide the direction of the club and the server. You should definitely attend if you’re interested in becoming an officer of some kind or you have an idea for a fun minigame we can do. Also, it’s no problem if you arrive late or leave early. This ain’t a class folks. Due to the COVID-19 outbreak we will be having our meetings through Minecraft, but that really isn’t any different from before.
Dues
We do have a club due of $5 per semester to fund our server, but you can wait up to 1 month after joining to pay it. If you fail to pay in that time, you will be taken off the whitelist, but you won’t be kicked out of the club. It’s more of a maintenance fee, and you may gain access again at any time by paying the due. Dues are taken at the start of each semester. During summer months there are no dues! How to pay dues will be explained after joining the club.
Server FAQ
1. Is the server vanilla? – Yes, but! There are some plugins in place to improve the quality of life within this survival world. Do /help for a list of commands that will help you in game. Some important ones include /sethome and /back
2. Where can I build? – You will have to run out a couple hundred blocks from spawn for clear space to settle down. There are still plenty of spaces around 600 blocks out. If you want to build in or near spawn, please read #server-highlights on Discord for more information. You are allowed to take items from the two trucks at /spawn to help you venture out.
3. My nether is acting weird. What do I do? – There are many nether portals around the server, so there’s a fair chance yours will link to someone else’s. Before you go into the nether, /sethome where you are before you enter. To properly set up your nether portal, please look up how nether portals work. But whatever you do, do not knock down other player’s portals in the nether or overworld!
4. How do I get to the real nether? – At /spawn there is a nether portal. Go in there, and get to the center of the nether hub. Go down the ladder and you will find the normal nether.
5. Is there an EXP farm? – Yes, refer to #server-highlights for more information.
6. Is the server VT students only? – We would like to have at least 70% of the students on this server to be VT students. If you would like a friend to be added, let an officer know and we can review on a case-by-case basis. Most likely the answer will be yes, anyone can join.
